We tried a new technique that has worked really well with our anorexics and I thought I would share what we are doing.
I read about the goodypack of sweetness and light on
It sounded like a good way to help with our anorexia battles ( she says it works for bulemics too) so three weeks ago we decided to try it with our kids.
We got them extra lunch boxes and filled them with all kinds of junk food- ho-ho's, chips, candy, chocolate milk, breakfast bars, muffins etc. and gave them to the kids to have any time they wanted them. We did what Deborah Hage suggested and talked about how with every bite they took they are taking in mom's love.
We also told them there are no rules for the goodypack. They can take things out, they can leave it full of trash, they can throw all the food away, they can trade with other kids, I will refill it anyway. At first this made the kids really mad. They were mad at me for a few days and made up their own rules to break. I just kept reminding them that I have no rules on the goodypack. When they left the bag at school, I filled up a plastic grocery bag.
About 2 days after getting the bag they started eating and eating and eating. I have never seen two kids eat so much. Now they take the goodypack with them everywhere they go, so when they need some of mom's love, they can have some anytime. They are eating more normally at mealtimes too. They started out skipping mealtimes and only eating the snacks in the hope that I would punish them by taking away the goodypack. When I didn't do that they started eating regular meals and eating from the goodypack. After 3 weeks they are starting to regulate how much they eat on their own and I don't have to fill the goodpack as frequently, but I still add to it several times a day.
