Building a Home in Her Heart
by T'shandra
It is not a switch that you throw,
To turn the attachment on.
It is like building a house
You have to prepare the land,
Lay the foundation, then build the walls
We have a shaky foundation,
Laid on ill prepared land.
We want to be furnishing the rooms
When we have to go back and prepare the land
Or fix the foundation.
We must dig deep to find
The child hidden within.
Smooth the rough rock strewn soil
Clear the garbage that litters the ground
Tear down the faulty foundation.
Rebuild the child from the soul up,
Laying a firm foundation
Of love and trust and confidence
That can stand against life's storms
Raise walls that shelter the heart
With windows to look out on the world.
Self contained but open to love
Full of joy and faith
Able to keep out the storms and keep in the warmth.
An inexperienced carpenter here
Thinking she can do this job on her own
Learning the lessons of life and love,
She is more than she knows
She holds her child's heart in her hands.
