A Note from John:
We have a tradition of exchanging thoughts and feelings on paper at Christmas as well as gifts. The night before Christmas I found myself in front of the computer not having a minute to write my thoughts down up until then. I needed to find just the right words, something really special for Margie.
Christmas 2003
Dear Margie...
'Twas the day of Christmas and all through the castle
were the discards of wrappings and everyone in a frazzle.
The turkey was ready for eating and all the trimmings too,
and hopes of seconds, desert and maybe some berries blue.
When out of the air and around the corner came a flurry of energy intense
and you knew in a moment that it must be our horse rider, the knight immense.
He was jumping and bounding and calling us by name,
"Mom - Dad, let's do this" and "let's do that" and it's always the same.
We try to slow this rider as he sails by,
but its like trying to lasso a star from the sky.
"Oh son, Oh son" we call in vain,
and our sound is lost like against the sound of a train.
At last the dark of night falls in its course across the sky
and our rider succumbs, to the bed he must lie.
When we view him all quiet and snuggled in his bed
we wonder what wondrous plans that God has for this head.
The anger and furry that ensue through the day
must be met by the Queen in her own quiet way.
The strength that supports her cannot be denied
for it comes from a well deep inside.
No its not that she does it all herself that's amazing',
for she calls on Heavens power when hells fires are ablazin'.
When God looked down for someone to be Ben's Mom, a job not glamorous,
He needed a woman with a heart just enormous.
As King of this castle and part of this plan from above,
I'm glad it was you that He chose from me to share love.
As we fall into bed all worn from the days fight,
We can say Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.
A Note from Margie:
This Christmas was the best ever. I've been married to this wonderful man for 13 years and didn't have any idea that he could write poetry. As I read the poem tears gushed down my face so I could hardly read the words on the page. I said "Thank you for the best Christmas present ever and the neclace was nice too."
