I Do Not Like Being Me
by Michelle Homer
I do not like being me I said
I do not like what's in my head.
I do not like me in my house.
I only like me with my mouse.
I do not like me here or there.
I do not like me anywhere.
I do not like my mom and dad.
They try to help me when I'm sad.
I do not like them here or there.
I do not like them anywhere.
Go away, go away, go away I say.
They only tell me we're here to stay.
We're your family, this is your house.
That even includes your little pet mouse.
I do not like to act this way.
No one can help me is what I say.
My mom understands and says let me try
Go away I tell her and begin to cry.
She cries too and I don't know why.
I don't like being me. I'd rather die.
I bought my son a book of poems for Christmas entitled "I Like Being Me."
My son took a Permanent marker and added "Don't" to the title.
I wrote this poem for him.
(Green Eggs and Ham was his favorite book at the time)
