If Only........

If only I were stronger,

If only they could accept,

If only the days were longer,

If only I weren't inept-

If only they'd follow rules,

Once in a while, at least-

If only they weren't such fools,

Or didn't see me as a beast-

If only I were perfect,

If only I'd never react,

If only they had no defects,

And their hearts were still intact-

If only they could care,

If only I didn't so much,

If only they played fair,

And didn't revile my touch

If only I didn't "If only",

And accepted things as they are,

If only I didn't feel lonely,

Or let them push me so far-

If only I'd give me a break,

And not take all of the blame,

But, there's so much at stake,

I keep trying to win the game-

"If only" won't get me anywhere,

"If only" won't heal their pain,

It's just a trap, so beware,

Before it becomes ingrained-
