I appreciated your call this morning about my children enrolling in ____________ High. We are very committed to our children and want to ensure that they receive the best education possible while keeping those around them safe.
While Reactive Attachment Disorder is common in the adoption community, many people in the educational realm are unfamiliar with RAD's causes or treatments. I am sending you (at the bottom of this email) an Overview of Reactive Attachment Disorder for Teachers from the website http://www.attachment.org This website contains a wealth of information about RAD children and how to treat them effectively. As I mentioned on the phone, we do not wish for our children to receive therapy from the school. However, therapeutic techniques will need to be utilized to enable the children to function in a school environment. I understand that you have a very busy schedule, but I hope you will have the time to read over this material so that you and your staff will be prepared from day one of meeting my children.
I would like to reassure you that if the proper therapeutic techniques are followed, my teens are very manageable. They thrive in highly structured environments.
There is a lot of information available about how to deal with RAD children and we will be happy to point you in the direction of these resources as well as making the children's therapist available to you for consultation.
