Mount RAD
By Kathryn Taylor
Shrouded far above the secrecy
Of billowy white fears,
Towers her majestic heart of stone-
An unconquered frontier-
Many were awed by her beauty,
As they were travelling along,
But it's I who sought to climb,
A challenge for just the strong-
The foothills of her nature
Are pleasant enough for all,
She's so easy to enjoy,
That it's almost magical-
But, I alone ascend her,
Hiking up to higher ground,
The path quickly growing harder
As she tries to confound-
Cold, harsh lies assault me
As the trail grows steeper still-
Little did I know,
This would take such skill-
I'm lost in her foggy cape,
Can't keep my bearings straight-
All I know is which way's up-
I just hope I'm not too late-
Too late to conquer this mountain,
Too late to reach the summit,
For if I lose my footing now,
I'm too high if I should plummet-
Reaching into the fissures,
I grip her heart of stone,
As I slowly climb still higher-
Wishing I could have flown-
I ache from head to toe,
As I strain to keep my hold,
But from here, beneath the rock,
I can see her heart is gold-
Seeing the treasure within my grasp,
I'm renewed by God on high-
The view from way up here
Is breathtaking to the eye-
Mount RAD, my formidable foe-
You're not scary in the least,
When I'm standing way up here
And you are quite beneath-
I wanted to be a mom,
Never desiring a career-
Who'd have ever thought,
I'd become a mountaineer-
