To My Beautiful Brown Eyed Daughter
We've weathered so much together, you and I.
Had so much happen in two short years.
I remember finding you on my bed,
Photos of Daddy circled you in ritualistic fashion.
His neckties, you had found in the closet's depths,
Forgotten when I sent his clothing.
You had the ties around your neck,
As you sat sobbing uncontrollably.
I sat holding you on the bed,
Where I had slept next to Daddy for so many years.
Hiding my own tears
As I comforted you.
Finally you could speak through your sobs,
"Oh, Mommy," you said. "I just can't make it without my Daddy".
I reassured you with my own vacant hope.
Assured you that we could make it together.
And we have,
And we will continue to do so.
Now you have become a young woman,
Living away from home, yet still present in every room.
I cannot let you know how much you are missed,
As you are in the exact place where you are meant to be.
I love you more than words can say,
My wonderful child.
You have overcome so much,
Your demons put to rest.
And we will continue to do it
Forever,
Together.
