The Little Prince
Surviving Life with Reactive Attachment Disorder
Suz's Night Before Christmas

Twas the night before Christmas
When all through the house
Every creature was stirring
Even my spouse

The stockings WERE hung by
The chimney with care
That is, until my radish son turned his rage toward them
Now they're threadbare!

My child was fighting
Bedtime with force
Everyone was unfazed
This is par for the course

And Mama at her last straw
And me at my worst
Wished he'd settle down
We longed for this first

When out on the lawn
There arose such a clatter
I immediately assumed
My radish was the matter

Away to the window
I flew like a flash
Tore open the shutters
And threw up the sash

The look of the lawn
Had given me hope
That nothing was wrong
There was no reason to mope

When what to my wondering eyes should appear
But a Michigan car
Hauling the oils and music
And much needed cheer!

With a strong willed driver
So ready to schmooze
I new in a moment it
Was none other than Suz.

More rapid than eagles
Her car unpacked in a flash
As she hugged and "helloed"
And was more needed than cash!

Now Cal, now Bella
Now Mom2 and Lori
Come now Elaine, Jodi
Deandra and Kevin

To the front of the garage
To the workbench inside
We'll build picnic tables with the kids
To help them abide

As hard rain that before
The hurricane pour
She was at a flash
Next to the garage door

On to the workbench
Her helpers they ran
With hands full of lumber
She had a grand plan

And then in a twinkling
I heard in the room
The hammering and cutting
The kids beginning to bloom

As I drew in my head
And was turning around
Into the house Suz came
With a bound

She was dressed all in layers
From her head to her feet
I told her this is Georgia
We have nothing but heat!

A bundle of books
She had in her bags
To help us all
Understand the red, red flags

Her eyes how they knew
The pain and the hurt
The misery and love
We all had been through

Her wonderful attitude
Her cheery outlook
Was not wasted on us
She knew that by our look

Some candy she made
She brought to share
Good doesn't describe
As it was made with care

A wink of her eye
And a turn of her head
Soon gave me to know
I had nothing to dread

She spoke with us all
And calmed down "Mr. Rad"
She brought peace and calm
To my home - boy was I glad

Then laying a finger
Aside of her head
And giving a nod
Through the door she sped

She sprang to her car
And to the group gave a whistle
They all piled in
Like a small homing missle

But I heard her exclaim
'Ere she drove out of sight
Merry Christmas to all
And to all a good night.

May you all have a blessed Christmas with your families and may the sprit of the season do its best to overpower
anything your Radishs try to damper it!   You have all made my year much more bearable and while J doesn't know it - you all are the reason he is able to spend Christmas with his new family!   So thank you all for that as well!

Much love this holiday season,
Cal - 2008
