Our Cross to Bear
By Kathryn Taylor
We took our cross to follow Him, up the hill to Calvary;
We never counted the cost or foresaw the misery-
We only counted the children and saw the pain endured-
We took them and we loved them, hoping they'd be cured-
We thought they would love us- We thought their hearts would melt-
We hoped that they would trust and tell us how they felt-
Before we knew what happened, we were flat upon our backs-
With their lies they pierced our hands, never giving any slack-
Their unforgiveness and resentment of all that they'd been through,
Bound our feet onto our cross- There was nothing we could do-
In deepest pain, we grieved within- sacrificed all of our dreams-
Our parent's love, a gaping wound, flowed a steady stream-
Sometimes it seems that nothing will satisfy their thirst,
'til our lives are taken away and they expose us as the worst-
God,
Please give to us the strength to endure these times of trial-
Give us glimpses of success, something to make us smile-
I pray that good will come from this whirlwind of strife
As we try to stay alive with Your hand upon our life-
Amen
