Prison of Mind
by Betty Jo Hilger
Without sufficient room to run
And build up speed to fly
He'll sit alone within his cage
And simply wait to die
Without a rise to struggle o'er
And challenge him to strive
He'll hobble, caught inside his pain
And stumble questing, why?
Without the power to perceive
Or ever see the sky
He's chained and held a prisoner
And does not know the lie
Without perception of this world
He lives existence blind
He'll never even be aware
Of treasures left behind

As we live our lives, it is often simpler to take credit for how things are going when we are successful. We take credit for everything good that happens. We become complacent in our comfortable niche, and do not try to seek a higher power or purpose. It is so very important that we remember that we were created by God for a reason, and that we can achieve much more serenity and joy when we submit to him, by giving him the recognition and worship he deserves. It is our duty to be aware, and to lead our fellow men, especially, our children to awareness as well.
