Promise and Love

Tearing out blades of grass...

she tossed them high into the air.

Staring blankly, she watched

as the wind silently swept them away.

There was a long silence as tears threatened to fall.

"Mommy, are you okay?" the small voice interrupted.

"I don't know," she answered nervously.

Quickly turning her face from view, she began to talk of happier times.

A time when laughter filled the air

and the days breathed visions of Promise and Love.

She watched closely...

as he sat down beside her and mimicked her posture.

She smiled...

as he ripped out handfuls of grass and threw them high into the air.

They both watched...

as the wind quickly swept them far away.

After a long lingering silence...

her heart was once again filled with Promise and Love

as the small child reached out and took her gently by the hand.

Love is a promise,
Love is a souvenir,
Once given never forgotten, Never let it disappear.
