She Remembers....

YEAR  1

She remembers your voice.
The hateful words,
The piercing screams
The silence.

She remembers the hurt
The hunger
The cold
The walls

She remembers the fear.
The blankets wrapped around her head
To silence her cries.
The darkness
She remembers the smells
Blood
Feces
Roaches

She will not cry
Yet screams are endless
No one to help

YEAR 4

Things are much different,
Still much the same.
She remembers the ‘times’
But trying to let go.

Questions her past,
And why it had to be
‘Why so many mommy’s
didn’t want me’

Wants to be loved,
But afraid just the same.
Knows it’s not me,
But still places blame.

Cuddles more often,
Making up for lost time,
Baby cries we hear,
Making sure we are near.

Trust almost in sight,
Still some days are hard,
We hope one day soon,
She can open her heart
