Silent Scream

by Chrissy

In the hush of a peaceful day
I hear your scream as I kneel and pray
I hear the agony as you twisted and turned alone in your bed
I can feel the warm tears that your innocent eyes shed

I shudder as the terror, you experienced engulfs me
As the danger of abuse loomed, and you hid hoping no one would see.
Washing over me now are the waves of numbness you used to survive
This silent scream kept you alive.

I tremble as I continue to pray
The bitter rejection from the harsh words they would say
Did you try and cover your tender ears
Or listen intently, yet not really hear?

I cover my eyes and hold my head
How can I heal you from what has been done and said?
The pain is so great, the loss so complete.
I feel your desperate need to within yourself retreat.

I begin to beg God to set you free
To give you His healing and make your eyes see
The love within the eyes of all whom love you.
To hear the words of empathy and understanding for all that you do.

In that very moment I am overcome with serenity
I understand fully what is expected of me.
I must share with you the pain of your past
To help you develop a love that will last.

Beyond the memories of all that has been said and done
Beyond your need to turn from love and run
Into your new life, when you are finally free
From the persistent presence of the silent scream.
