The Binding Tie
by Betty Jo Hilger
12/03/10
The click and clack of treadles
The shuttles flying sharp
Up and down the harness' dance
A pattern on her heart
Threads of whimsy marshal
Convening on command
A daydream's contemplation
Veracity disbands
The wonder of the landscape
The glory of the view
A path from desperation
A course toward something new
Conceiving webs of wonder
Designing strands of love
Tying up the warp of life
Embracing treasured trove
Though at times they tangle
And climb into a knot
Patience is a virtue
Resisting rapture's rot
So tenderly shepherding
Her fractious peevish flock
She weaves her grief and sorrow
Connecting peace to naught
Where once disparate fragments
Lay jumbled on the ground
Tenaciously persistent
Their tapestry is wound
A mother's soul will not give way
A weaver's weft consistent
Transforming raw unwieldy scrap
To an exquisite garment
