Chapter Fifteen

"Oh no..... Somebody's coming!"

Mother Mouse scampered across the baby's room and hid herself behind the clothes hamper.   "Hurry Morty.... hurry up and get over here!"

"I have to go, Little One," Morty said as he took off running towards his mother.  "I'll be back really soon."

"Shhhhhhhhh.......," Mother Mouse whispered.  "Be very quiet, Morty."

Morty peered around the corner and watched as the door knob turned, and the door slowly swung open.

"That's not his Mother... or his Father,"Morty whispered.

"Shhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!"

The room was dark, except for the strange leaf-like shadows swaying back and forth on the walls above.  Morty tried to make out the face of the strange shadowy figure as he slowly made his way across the room.

"Who is that?," Morty whispered.

"Shhhhhhhhhh, be quiet," Mother Mouse quickly snapped.

As the mysterious stranger slowly approached the crib, a cold chill spread through Mother Mouse's bones, leaving hundreds of tiny goosebumps across her body.

"What's he doing?," Morty asked, as the stranger reached into the crib and lifted up the baby.

Mother Mouse opened her mouth to talk, but the words didn't want to come out.

"Mother........ who is that.... where's he taking the baby?"

"Shhhhhhhhhhhhh........," Mother Mouse managed to squeak out, as she reached out and grabbed her son firmly by the hand.

The stranger turned and walked across the room, placing the baby on the floor only a few feet away from Morty and his Mother.

"What the heck is he doing," Morty shreiked, as he heard the sound of a zipper.

"Morty...... I... I think it's time for you to go home now," Mother Mouse said as her voice began to shake.

"Go Home??????," Morty whispered, sounding confused.  "We can't go home!!!!"

"Morty..... Listen to me," Mother Mouse said as she grabbed him by the chin and quickly turned his face towards hers.  "I want you to stay very close to the wall and work your way all the way around the room to the door.... and when you get to the door.... I want you to start running... and keep running as fast as you can until you get home."

"No, Mother," Morty began to argue.  "I don't want to go without......."

Mortan............ you will do as I say," Mother Mouse said raising her voice.  "Do you hear me?"

Mother Mouse's heart began to sink into her stomach as the dark figure bent down and nearly covered the baby's entire body with his own.  As the baby started to scream, Mother Mouse could feel her own heart beginning to break.

"GO, MORTY!!!!!!!!!!   GO NOW......," Mother Mouse yelled as she shoved him backwards against the wall.

Morty was both confused and frightened as he put one hand on the wall and quickly followed it all the way to the door.  Without turning back, he quickly slipped under the door, and ran home as fast as he could.

Mother Mouse put her head between her knees and sobbed.

"No........... no......... please don't do this," she cried. "Please stop........ he's only a baby!!!"
