Tyra the Angry Grizzly Bear
by Chrissy
Tyra lived in a dark cave nestled deep within a forest. Enormous pine trees and emerald colored ferns surrounded Tyras' cave. Trya lived alone within her cave and felt very safe there, as the cave walls were made of very thick stone.
Tyra felt lonely at times, but this was not a feeling that bothered her much. The feeling that bothered her most was her big, loud, and uncontrollable anger. Tyra did not always understand why she was so
angry. What she did understand was that her angry feelings were bigger then even the enormous pine trees that surrounded her cave, and this made it hard for her to have any friends.
Every morning when Tyra would open her eyes, she would feel her big angry feelings. She would then slumber out of her cave and stand looking out into the forest. The big angry feelings would become so big within her heart that she would let out a loud bellowing ROAR. Tyra would continue to growl and roar until all of her big angry feelings were gone. The sound of Tyra's roar would ring throughout the entire forest, and all of the rabbits, squirrels, hedgehogs, raccoons, birds and many other small animals would run and hide in fear. Even other grizzly bears would cower in their caves, as Tyras' anger was terribly frightening to everyone who heard it.
Tyra would then feel lonely and sad again, as she would spend her entire day by herself in the forest with no one to talk to or listen to. All of the animals were just too scared to be around Tyra. Tyra often wished she could hear even the slightest chirping of a bird, or watch even one graceful deer prance through the wooded forest. She often imagined herself as tiny bear cub again, when she was tumbling with her brother and sister cubs; back when she could watch, hear, and see all of the animals in the forest. Tyra would even wish she were a cub again, just so she could again feel close to other animals. Sometimes, when she was thinking about these things, she would hide in her cave and cry. Tyra would never want any of the forest animals to see her cry, as she felt much safer having them think she was angry. After all, they were all
scared of her anyway.
One night Tyra fell into a deep sleep and began to dream. In her dream a tiny fairy with golden hair and a crimson red fairy dress visited her. The fairy told Tyra that perhaps she could make friends with the forest animals if she would just find another way to let out her big angry feelings. In her dream the tiny fairy tapped her tiny finger on her temple and then told Tyra that perhaps she could try stomping her gigantic paws when she felt angry, instead of growling and roaring. When Tyra awoke from her sleep, she remembered what the red fairy had told her. Tyra sat in her cave feeling the big angry feelings building up within her heart. This time she decided to try and let them out by stomping her feet.
Tyra slumbered out of her cave, looked out into the forest, and began stomping her paws. She stomped over and over again until all of the big angry feelings were gone. With each stomp of her paw's the entire
forest floor shook. This also shook all of the trees, and the birds became frightened. Again, every animal in the forest became scared and scurried to find a place to hide. Although the animals did not understand why the trees shook and the forest floor trembled, they all knew it was something they had never felt. And for this reason, they all sought shelter.
Tyra fell into a deep sleep that night. She again began to dream, and in this dream, she was visited by a tiny fairy with shiny, orange hair and a purple dress. This fairy told her that instead of stomping her big paws, or growling and roaring, perhaps she should just try and talk to another animal. This fairy sprinkled golden fairy dust onto Tyra and then told her that a friendly forest animal would visit her when she
awoke. This could be the animal that she could talk to about her big angry feelings.
That morning Tyra awoke, and as she always did, she began to feel the big angry feelings growing deep in her heart. She also remembered her dream of the fairy and the golden fairy dust that was sprinkled over her. Tyra slumbered out of her cave and looked out into the forest. Directly in front of her, perched on a stone was a tiny squirrel. Tyra stood in utter amazement to see such a small animal sitting calmly in front her. The squirrel then introduced himself to Tyra as Max.
Max asked Tyra if she would like to talk awhile. Tyra didn't know what to do. Part of her wanted crawl back into her cave, and the other part really wanted to try to talk with Max about her big angry feelings. She wondered if her talking about these big angry feelings would just scare Max away. Finally, Tyra carefully approached Max and slowly sat next to the rock next to him. Max and Tyra talked for a very long time. Tyra realized that the longer she talked to Max about her feelings, the smaller her angry feelings became.
Max and Tyra became good friends, and Tyra learned that even her biggest angry feelings could be talked about until they were gone. The other forest animals learned of Max and Tyra's friendship, and soon,
many forest animals would stop to visit Tyra at her cave. Tyra was very proud of herself for learning a different way to let out her big angry feelings. She also felt very happy that she was no longer so alone and
had friends who accepted her.
