Your Broken Heart

by Jan Heffron Taber

Oh, how I wish I could just reach inside
And love your heart well.
I would hold it, affirm it's goodness
And kiss the rips and tears away.
But life is not that easy
Instead we must go on with the therapy you so detest.
Until you talk the hurts away
As Laurie or I hold you.
And sometimes feed you hot chocolate and chocolate chip cookies.
The pain in your eyes
Brings tears to my own.
You become uncomfortable if I cry,
But I am crying the tears that you cannot.
When our tears flow together
Your heart will be healed
And so will my own.
